On Saturday 16 April at 7.30pm you can experience Mass of the Children by John Rutter performed by our orchestra and choir with St Albans Catholic High School.  We’ll be joined by local soprano soloist Muriel Kwint for this part of the programme and the music tells the tale of a day in the life of a child.

Overture Peterloo is a dramatic and hair-raising piece of music, including an exciting battle section featuring drums and brass, which tells the tale of the Peterloo Massacre.  This occurred at St Peter’s Field, Manchester, England, on 16 August 1819, when cavalry charged into a crowd of 60,000–80,000 that had gathered to demand the reform of parliamentary representation.

This will be the second time that the choral version of this piece has been performed in public with the words set by Ben Parry.  Born and raised in Ipswich, Ben is the co-director of London Voices, Assistant Director of Music at King’s College, Cambridge and director of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.
