Concerts and Events Diary

Trianon performs three major concerts a year performed by the full complement of Trianon’s Symphony Orchestra and Choir – over 200 musicians on stage – as well as four community concerts and other exciting events to tempt you throughout the year.

THE GIFT OF MUSIC

16th September 2023 | 7.30pm at Ipswich Corn Exchange
Conducted by Emeritus Professor Chris Green OBE

Trianon is delighted to perform this concert in celebration of our Artistic Director’s 80th birthday year. The programme brings together episodes in the lives of both himself and his ancestors, whilst including music that has a popular appeal.

New Year’s Musical Revels

6th January 2024 | 7.30pm at Ipswich Corn Exchange
Conducted by Emeritus Professor Chris Green OBE

Trianon has long prided itself in offering a light-hearted programme to welcome in the New Year. It rarely is based upon the more traditional Viennese-style of music to be heard on New Year’s Day, although this year is an exception with a group of pieces by the Strauss family and Franz Lehar. For the rest of the programme you can be sure there is no shortage of hummable or even audience-singable tunes.

From Italy With Love

27th April 2024 | 7.30pm at St John’s Church, Cauldwell Hall Road, Ipswich
Conducted by Emeritus Professor Chris Green OBE

This programme started as a tribute to Puccini whose death occurred 100 years ago. His musical legacy in
terms of opera is immeasurable. Sadly, he wrote little music in other genres, but tonight’s inclusion of his Messa
di Gloria spans the sacred with a distinctive operatic flavour. The work of a young composer, his true style had
yet to fully develop, but the seeds of that can be heard in this tuneful work. His near contemporaries are represented – with the programme including Italian music from the baroque to the celebrated film score for The Mission by Ennio Morricone who died in 2020 at the age of 91 (and was still conducting !).

Sea Fever

14th September 2024 | 7.30pm at Snape Maltings Concert Hall
Conducted by Emeritus Professor Chris Green OBE

Trianon could not pass over an opportunity to present a programme themed around “the sea” given the
proximity of tonight’s venue to the wonderful Suffolk coastline. The programme starts with a recently
orchestrated version of Sir Malcolm Arnold’s Padstow Lifeboat, written whilst he was living in Cornwall. The
rest of the programme includes some works reflecting the great tradition of British “light” music.
