Lady Hilary Groves Prize 2023

Our Artistic Director, Chris Green, was delighted to be shortlisted for the Lady Hilary Groves Prize 2023, awarded by Making Music as part of their annual music awards which celebrate the achievements of the membership of 4,000 leisure-time music groups.

The prize is given to someone who has made an outstanding contribution to music in the community.

Gillian Williams, alto and a Trianon Choir Representative, nominated Chris and wrote the submission to Making Music.

The online awards ceremony was held via zoom on the evening of Thursday 5th October, with the winner in each category announced by Debbie Wiseman OBE who, you may recall, gave a Friday evening talk to Trianon during lockdown about her work as a composer and album The Music of Kings & Queens. Debbie Wiseman is the current President of Making Music.

Chris’s nomination was introduced by Alison Reeves, Making Music Deputy Chief Executive and compere for the ceremony, reading Gill’s thoughtful summary of Chris’s achievements. A video tribute was played from Josh Mundy and Cath Bury, recorded by Richard Boother (Trianon’s new publicity lead).

Three musical directors were nominated for the award. Very many congratulations to Chris who won the award in his category and was able to thank Debbie, and describe Trianon’s role in commissioning new work and supporting young musicians in developing professional careers in music.

He will receive a certificate signed by Making Music’s Patron, HRH the Duchess of Kent.
